If you are responsible for areas where water drainage is particularly challenging, then a pumped drainage system could make a big difference.

What exactly is a pumped drainage system?

A pumped drainage system is a self-contained unit that can be installed in fluid-carrying pipes to move water. They are often found in sewers, and water systems with a low gravity drop or where connection to the main drainage is difficult.

Their purpose is to remove surface water and sewage from poor drainage areas or in remote locations where water struggles to flow naturally into and along drainage systems.

How do they work

The movement of water through pipes often relies on gravity to make its journey. When waste water is at a low point, gravity can no longer assist, and a pump is needed to move the water to a higher level until gravity can take over again or it reaches the main sewer system.

What happens if the pump fails?

Pumped drainage systems can be found in many locations: residential homes, industrial sites, offices and hospitals, anywhere that’s low-lying or prone to flooding and where there is a risk of standing water causing pollution or damage.

If pumps fail, it’s necessary to fix them quickly before any disruption is caused, which is exactly what one of our clients did recently; late in the afternoon, they contacted us to investigate a pump failure.

As we have our own specialist equipment to deal with pumped drainage systems, we were able to quickly diagnose the issues and provide quotes, with full costings for the work needed to fully rectify the fault.

Until the full excavation works could begin, to fix the problem, we provided pumping units to over-pump and prevent any build-up of water.
