Relining vs Re-laying drainpipes

There are many ways to repair a damaged drainpipe. It’s possible to reline a damaged pipe with a new one, or to return a deformed pipe to its original state before relining it. For those times when a repair can’t fix the problem, then the drainpipe needs to be taken out and a replacement re-layed.

Drainpipes can experience movement in the ground, broken joints or damage from issues such as tree roots. The resultant damage can be substantial, which means lining won’t work.

The pipe’s age should also be taken into consideration. If it’s old, likely to be made from cast iron or another less durable material, then fixing damage may only be a short-term fix and replacing the pipes with new ones made from more flexible material is the best long-term solution.

Drain and Sewer Services’ repair teams start with a CCTV survey before any surface is dug, to pinpoint exactly where the issues may be, and to determine the right measures to fix it.

We ensure that we have a good understanding of the layout of all the pipes around and all planning is done beforehand to ensure minimal disruption. You should only pay for work that really needs to be done.

We liaise with the appropriate water or sewage authorities when necessary so that all legal requirements are complied with. We also ensure minimal disruption thanks to our Streetworks accreditation (NRSWA), helping us to create a safe environment while we carry out work and to return the surface to its pre-repair condition. It’s all part of our end-to-end service.
